Gulab Devi Hospital was established in 1934 by Lala Lajpat Rai in the memory of his mother, Gulab Devi, who died due to tuberculosis in 1927. Gulab Devi Teaching Hospital is a 1500 bed teaching hospital attached to Al-Aleem Medical College, Lahore. It was initially developed to cater patients with tuberculosis only but now it has evolved to be one of the largest in Asia, catering all types of pulmonology patients. 

Pulmonology Department here is very comprehensive. It has its own separate OPD that caters upto 15000 on average in a month, 551 beds for in-door patients, with exclusive sixty beds dedicated for teaching undergraduate students. There is a separate isolation ward for MDR TB patients comprising 12 beds, state of the art medical ICU, high dependency units, and procedure room for procedures like Chest Ultrasound, Pleural Aspiration, Tube Thoracostomy and Pleural Biopsy. We have an elaborate bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy suite in which we conduct bronchial washings and end bronchial biopsies, and pleuroscopies. Our spirometry technician perform several spirometries in a day with our latest spirometer. We deal with patients of respiratory failure so we provide non-invasive ventilatory support to these patients as well as having close liaison with ICU. We also run TB DOTS and MDR Clinic in collaboration with NTP program.
